MLK Prayer: King’s legacy remembered, challenges continue

A prayer breakfast celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. presented reminders that the United States continues its struggle to travel the road blazed by the civil rights leader who was assassinated in 1968 at the age of 39.

Police chief cites training for ‘drastic’ reduced use of Tasers

Eunice police used their Tasers four or five times in 2015, down from up to 35 times in 2014, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said at a Board of Aldermen’s meeting Tuesday.
Fontenot said the reduction in the use of the stun gun is related to increased training of police.

Cinema on the Bayou festival begins Wednesday in Lafayette

The 11th Cinema on the Bayou Film Festival’s opening night feature film will be “Voyagers Without Trace,” which will screen at the Acadiana Center for the Arts at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a reception with Grégor Trumel, consul general of France in Louisiana.

Obituaries

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
