School Board doors locked at committee meetings

As the St. Landry Parish School Board executive committee met Monday to discuss whether to begin its meetings at 1 p.m. or continue a 4 p.m. start time, some of the concerns voiced were about public participation.
But there was a problem.

Beef producers pass a good time

The celebration at the 30th annual “Here’s the Beef Cook-off” was entirely appropriate as the beef industry enjoys good times.

Economist bullish on year for beef producers

Cattle prices should remain strong for 2015, after a brief dip during the past two months, according to an LSU AgCenter beef cattle economist.
“Auction barn prices have been down but they’ve rebounded over the past couple of weeks,” said LSU AgCenter economist Ross Pruitt.

Here's the Beef Cookoff winners

Dupre Farms won best dressed team, best decorated booth, first-place ground meat, second-place tongue, and first-place Brisket.

The 30th annual St. Landry Parish Here’s the Beef Cook-off was held Sunday at the Ag Arena in Opelousas.
Grand champion overall winner was Team Mowata,  Chef Bryon Zaunbrecher,  with his first place Gourmet.

Obituaries

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
