Louisiana State University Eunice has moved forward early on adopting State Act 211 signed by Governor Bobby Jindel in July. The Act calls for college campuses to move toward a tobacco-free campus.
The city of Eunice will celebrate his birthday on Saturday and Sunday, an event leading up to two significant events 50 years ago in the civil rights movement championed by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Oil industry activity is shifting to the Eunice-Basile section with the Humble Co. already locating an exploration crew there.

The Eunice City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday night to consider a resolution that would call for a May 3 election to re-dedicate the city of Eunice’s 1-percent capital improvement sales tax, in the process changing the allocation formula.

Narcotics detectives with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office following a tip, struck the home of Joshua Benoit, 38, of Basile on December 27.
The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office reported seven recent bookings into the parish jail.
Arrested were the following persons:
•Dewayne A. Thomas, 23, 817 Cypress St., Mamou, was charged January 2, with domestic abuse battery. Thomas was released from jail on a $5,000 bond.
During its monthly meeting Wednesday, January 8, the Mamou Town Council discussed the need for residents to bag leaves so ditches don’t become clogged, causing flooding.
MAMOU – In an impressive showing, Mamou earned a sweep over Eunice Monday in the season opener for both teams.

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
