It’s been a good autumn for St. Landry Parish President Bill Fontenot.
First, voters approved the 2-cent sales tax he asked for in unincorporated areas to finance a 15-year, $70 million road improvement program.
The trial of Eunice community activist Joseph Lawrence on theft charges has been continued without date in 27th Judicial District Court.
Lawrence’s trial, scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 13, was taken off the docket after Anna Simmons enrolled as his new attorney.
The Eunice City Council heeded the recommendation of the mayor to appoint Ginny Moody as the new city clerk at Tuesday night’s regular monthly meeting.

The Mamou Police Department reported five recent bookings into the town jail.
Arrested were the following persons:
•Gregory Lavergne, 58, 912 Third St., Mamou, was charged November 5, with violation of protective order. Lavergne was transferred to the parish jail.
