The Catholic Church’s past issues with scandals came up in the Louisiana State Senate chamber Monday as the body debated a House bill that would add rape of minors to the sex crimes that can be prosecuted up to 30 years after they are committed.
A measure to rein in the cost of TOPS, the state’s popular tuition-paying program, passed 74-20 through the House Monday and heads to Gov. John Bel Edwards, who favors it.

Feeling that the temporary increases in sales taxes, from Act 25 from the first special session earlier this year, had a few unintended consequences, Reps.
The St. Landry Parish Council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The Council's Public Works Committee is to meet first followed by the Administrative-Finance Committee at the Old City Market, 131 W. Bellevue St., Opelousas. A speical meeting is to follow the committee.
