Eunice Mardi Gras keeps tradition alive

The intersection of Walnut and 2nd streets in Eunice filled with a Mardi Gras crowd that reached an estimated 5,000 people. The crowd pictured was in front of the stage as Paul Daigle and Cajun Gold performed at about 1:30 p.m. The day’s festivities began at 6 a.m. when the Eunice Mardi Gras Association opened registration for its run through the country that includes a parade through downtown Eunice at about 3 p.m. More photographs from the Mardi Gras in Eunice are on Pages 5 and 6. The Eunice Mardi Gras tradition stayed alive with thousands of people filling the city’s downtown participating in parades, parade-watching, dancing, shopping and eating.
Interim Mayor Scott Fontenot said it was the biggest crowd he had seen in the downtown.
