Tri-parish unemployment rates continue to be above those of a year ago.
St. Landry Parish’s unemployment rate in August was 9 percent, up from 8 percent in August 2015, according not-seasonally adjusted data reported by the federal Bureau of Labor statistics and released Friday.
A Eunice auditing office is to continue its work with St. Landry Parish Government after a bid to request proposals was turned aside at Wednesday’s Parish Council meeting in Opelousas.
The move came as an $800,000 deficit surfaced at the meeting.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (has designated 11 parishes in Louisiana as primary natural disaster areas because of the recent storms and flooding, which means some Louisiana farmers could be eligible for assistance.
The Acadiana Disaster Response Fund, at Community Foundation of Acadiana, awarded a total of $228,000 to 13 local organizations and churches on Sept. 16 to benefit flood victims.

Tour du Teche is having a flood sale on one-day races during the 2016 series of paddling marathons in October.
Entry fees have been reduced to $40 per paddler. Anyone who has already paid up can take a refund on race day or apply the overage to any of the 2017 races.
