St. Edmund sweeps district meet

PORT ALLEN – For the first time in St. Edmund track history, the Lady Jays and Blue Jays swept a district meet.
The Lady Jays scored 146 points to roll past District 5-1A rivals North Central (106), Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (104), Pointe Coupee Central (73), Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (62) and False River Academy (54).
The Blue Jays captured the District 5-1A title with 156 points to run past Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (116), False River (104), Pointe Coupee Central (74), North Central (68) and Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (28).
The top four finishers in each event advance to the regional track meet set for Tuesday at the Basile High athletic complex.
The field events begin at 12:45 p.m. and the running events are set for 5 p.m.
The Blue Jays captured the 2011 district title, while the Lady Jays last won district in 2009.
Heather Bieber was named District Field MVP as she finished first in the discus (1003-3.5) and the shot put (32-8).
Heidi Bieber won the pole vault at 7-6 and finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 80-0, while Mallory Allain finished fourth in the discus with a toss of 76-4.
Kasey Lafleur finished third in the 300-meter hurdles at 56.51, followed by Gabrielle Heinen at 59.32.
Abby Brown finished second in the pole vault at 7-0.
Jada Fontenot captured second in the triple jump with a distance of 32-5.5, second in the 100-meter hurdles (18.94) and fourth in the high jump (4-6).
Claire Quirk finished second in the 3,200-meter run at 14:52, followed by Sydney Thibodeaux’s 15:33.
Quirk placed third in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:28.96.
Brown, Lafleur, Macy Comeaux and Alison Turk finished third in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:49.05.
Courtney Phillips finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.11.
Turk won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:09.26 and finished fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:54.
Comeaux finished third in the 400-meters dash with a time of 1:10.19.
Jami LeBouef grabbed third in the 200 meters with a 29.24 finish.
In the boys competition, Drake DuBois won the javelin with a toss of 154-5 just ahead of Ross Lafleur’s 154-3.
LaFleur also finished second in the discus with a throw of 101-0.
Landen Lyons won the pole vault at 13-6, while Hunt finished fourth at 9-6.
Cullen Brown won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 46.05 and finished third in the 110-meter hurdles (20.18)
Quinten Swann won the 110-meter hurdles (18.21) and finished third in the 300-meter hurdles (50.76).
Alex Hunt captured the 3,200 meters with a time of 12:44 and grabbed fourth in the 1,600 meters (6:01.59).
Phillip Zaunbrecher earned second in the shot put with a toss of 38-1, followed by Henry Miller (35-10).
Noah Clause grabbed second in the triple jump with a leap of 36-6.
Drew Brown finished second in the long jump at 19-3, while Gibson LaFleur was fourth (17-9).
Aaron Sittig earned a third-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 55.07.
Zac LaFleur advanced to the regionals with a fourth place finish in the high jump (5-2)
Brown, John Ross Guillory, John Hull and Sittig grabbed fourth place in the 4x400 relay (4:20.18), while Zac LaFleur, Gibson LaFleur and Brown finished fourth on the 4x100 relay (48.46).
Guillory earned a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.93.
