The six new St. Landry Parish Council members began to assert themselves at their second regular meeting.
The council rejected an ordinance that would have directed members to have their expense reports approved by the parish president.
Fire District 3, St. Landry Parish’s largest fire district, has been operating at a deficit the past three years and is relying on a $2.1 million reserve fund to keep operations afloat, a fire district administrator said.
The St. Landry Parish Council is to meet Wednesday. The meetings begin with a public hearing at 5:45 p.m. followed by the regular meeting at 6 p.m. Agenda items are attached in pdf documents.

The St. Landry Parish Council appears headed to ending verbatim accounts of its meetings published in its legal notices.
The St. Landry Parish Council will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and committees meetings starting at 6 p.m. at the Old City Market, 131 W. Bellevue St., Opelousas.
