Gas leak near Central Middle School

A natural gas leak on East Maple next to Central Middle School occurred at about noon Thursday. The school was evacuated for about 15 minutes as the leak was repaired. East Maple Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive were closed to traffic until about 12:10 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Alderman asked to authorize fire investigations by Eunice firefighters

Fire Chief Mike Arnold is asking the Eunice Board of Aldermen to authorize his department to investigate the origin and cause of fires.

Eunice house fire investigated

Eunice Fire Chief Mike Arnold said a fire that occurred at 410 Dean St. Thursday night is under investigation.
“The home was unoccupied, but power was still going to the house,” Arnold said. “There was no furniture in the home, but it is suspicious that a fire erupted in the home.”

UPDATED: One person rescued from house fire

A victim rescued from a house fire Monday morning is being treated at Acadian Medical Center, said Eunice Fire Chief Mike Arnold.
"She is in intensive care, but she is sitting up and talking," Arnold said. "She's 87 years old, and she told me she'll be 88 for Christmas."
