Former educator and mayor Claud “Rusty” Moody Jr. died Tuesday morning — a little more than a month after his Oct. 7 resignation as mayor of Eunice.

Fontenot transitions from council to mayor

Scott Fontenot, named interim Eunice mayor, said it has been a smooth transition switching from his council seat to the top job at City Hall.
“I’m not going to do anything major,” he said Thursday at a Eunice Kiwanis Club meeting. “I am going to run for mayor in March.”

Ten years ago today Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas a matter of days strengthened to a Category 5 storm in the Gulf of Mexico.
The huge storm made landfall on Aug. 29 as Category 3.

Master plan draws sharp discussion

Talk of a master plan for Eunice elicited a sharp response from Jack Burson, alderman at-large, even as the council approved naming steering committee members by Aug. 18.
