Fired fire chief reinstated

Mike Arnold, who was terminated from his job as Eunice fire chief after being accused of slapping a female volunteer firefighter in the buttocks area, was reinstated Wednesday night by the Eunice Fire and Police Civil Service Board.

South Louisiana rice planting off to good start

Rice farmers in south Louisiana have been taking advantage of favorable weather to start their growing season with estimates of more than half the acreage planted.

From 5,000 to 6,000 people attended the 30th annual World Championship Crawfish Etouffee Cook-off, estimated Kelly Pitre, Eunice Chamber of Commerce presidnet.

Vitter warns against short- term budget fix

Crawfish briefly trumped the issues of concern to U.S. Sen. David Vitter, but the candidate for governor said stabilizing the state’s budget is an obvious concern.
“I’m laying out a lot of ideas,” he said as he visited the World Championship Crawfish Etouffee Cook-off Sunday.

Obituaries

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
