BATON ROUGE -- Evangeline Parish Sheriff Eddie Soileau can now begin working towards rebuilding his department since receiving approval from the Louisiana State Bond Commission on Thursday to borrow $1,000,000.

Car flies across canal, woman injured

A 51-year-old Basile woman was injured when the car she was driving south on Bulah Street went through a hurricane fence and flew across a canal at about 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to a Eunice Police report. The woman, Eva Belton, was taken to Acadian Medical Center and transferred to Lafayette General, the report stated. The report said Belton avoided a pile of furniture on the side of the road before going through the fence in the 2004 Nissan Altima. Police estimate the canal is about 30 feet wide and about 12 feet deep. (Photo courtesy of Eunice Police)

Obituaries

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
