Flooding in Grand Coteau

After a torrential downpour at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday the intersection at of La. 93 and Interstate 49 was flooded in areas. After a torrential downpour at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday the intersection at of La. 93 and Interstate 49 was flooded in areas. The interstate was closed for a period between Opelousas and Lafayette due to flooding. More rain is in the forecast tonight and Monday.

I-49 lane closure

Beginning Sunday until Monday, the outside lane of Interstate 49 south, located north of Opelousas, will be closed to allow crews to perform repair work to the message board located at milepost 22.
The work is estimated to take place from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Lightning strike triggers wreck that killed husband, wife in I-49 wreck in Evangeline Parish

A vehicle struck by lightning triggered a wreck that killed a Covington husband and wife in a three-vehicle wreck On Interstate 49 northbound, south of the Bunkie exit in Evangeline Parish, a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release stated.
