The LSU AgCenter will conduct a series of meetings throughout the Louisiana rice-growing region for rice farmers to get the latest information to help with the 2016 crop.

After 23 years serving, first as a police juror then as a parish councilman, Gary Courville, 68, is leaving an elected job he first won in what he calls a surprising election.

The 2015 Louisiana rice crop was a challenge for many farmers, with excessive rainfall in the south and hot temperatures in the north.
Unemployment rates in St. Landry and Evangeline parishes dropped in November from year-ago levels, but the number of people working also declined.
