Cheers erupted as a remote-controlled door on a cage closed. A small ruby-throated hummingbird was inside at a feeder.

LSU board approves new ag education department

The LSU Board of Supervisors authorized creation of the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education and Evaluation at its Sept. 12 meeting in Baton Rouge.

Lafayette man accused of trying to kill officer

A man who allegedly exchanged gunfire with a police officer is recovering from wounds at a hospital and will be charged with several felonies when released.
A woman is accused of being a principal to the shooting and of obstruction of justice.

Hunting 500-pound gators

Mequet and Gus Angelle load the 300- to 500-pound gators onto the truck.
For 30 days in September alligators are hunted and harvested throughout South Louisiana and St. Martin Parish.
