Walmart did not close on the property at the corner of St. Mary Road and U.S. 190, Don Reber, chairman of the Eunice Economic Development Committee, said Thursday.

There was one fewer Eunice High Bobcat fan cheering in the stands for the homecoming game Friday night, and the absence of Julia Watford will never be forgotten by her classmates, including best friend Meghan Guillory.

Germanfest on for weekend

The 21st annual Germanfest at Robert’s Cove will be held Saturday and Sunday at St. Leo Catholic Church grounds off La. 98.
The festival opens at 9:30 a.m. with a ceremony followed by a parade and tapping the keg.

Moreau’s Acadia Parish residency challenge settled

A lawsuit aimed at disqualifying one of two candidates for the Distrct 8 seat on the Acadia Parish Police Jury was dismissed.
The lawsuit filed by Gibson Miller challenged the residency of Felton “Tony” Moreau, who is running against incumbent Robert Guidry in the Oct. 24 election.

Obituaries

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
