Gas rate hike is on council agenda

A natural gas rate hike of $3 on the first 1,000 cubic feet of gas is on the agenda for the Eunice city council meeting Tuesday.
A public hearing is scheduled at 6:15 p.m. in the council chambers prior to the start of the council meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Iota woman charged with indecent behavior with a juvenile

A 21-year-old Iota woman was arrested and charged with indecent behavior with a juvenile, Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon reported.

Pitre, former chief operating officer of Louisiana State Newspapers, dies

Willie Pitre

Willie Pitre Jr., 70, who served as chief operating officer of Louisiana State Newspapers and publisher of The Eunice News, died Friday at his residence in Lafayette.
Pitre had a 41-year career in the newspaper industry before he retired in December 2006.

Clay Babineaux, R.N., B.S.N., of Eunice was recognized as the Nursing Rookie of the Year at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.
Recipients were nominated by their peers in the nursing field and honored for excellence in their daily practice.

Golf carts are in the future of Eunice streets if the Rev. Lloyd Antoine has anything to say about it.
Antoine, a Faris Street resident, says he has used his electric golf cart and finds the machine is way to reconnect to neighbors.

Eunice native elected to chiropractic leadership role

HOUSTON — Max Vige, D.C., of League City assumed the role of secretary-treasurer for the Texas Chiropractic Association at its annual convention on June 6 in San Antonio, Texas.
This marks the beginning of the one-year term for the Eunice native.
