St. Landry Parish School Board rejects new contract for superintendent

The St. Landry Parish School Board voted 8-3 to not renew the contract of Superintendent Edward Brown at meeting Thursday.
Brown, a 42-year veteran of the school system, was up for a contract decision in September. His contract ends Dec. 30.

Louisiana experienced a record-breaking number of visitors in 2015 and that tourism success rippled into St. Landry Parish, Celeste Gomez, St. Landry Parish Tourism executive director, said Tuesday to about 40 people attending the St. Landry Parish Tourism Industry Luncheon in Opelousas.

State’s grad rate reaches all-time high

Louisiana’s public high school graduation rate reached 77.5 percent in 2015, an all-time high, according to the state Department of Education.
The four-year high school gradation rate increased for the fifth consecutive year in 2015.

Obituaries

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
