Republican lawmakers, eying spending cuts to shift money to fully fund TOPS, the state’s college scholarship program for in-state students, pushed through committee approval Monday to require the executive branch to cut $184 million from state contracts.

Gas leak near Central Middle School

A natural gas leak on East Maple next to Central Middle School occurred at about noon Thursday. The school was evacuated for about 15 minutes as the leak was repaired. East Maple Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive were closed to traffic until about 12:10 p.m. No injuries were reported. Obituaries

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
