Dope-infused products seized in traffic stop on U.S. 190

A traffic to on U.S. 190 near Three Mile Lake resulted in the seizure of THC -- the active ingredient in marijuana -- infused products from a Springfield man and woman on Tuesday, St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said in a news release.

Eunice Police arrests

The following are arrests by Eunice Police.

April 27
Louis O’Brine, 21, 100 block of Bienville, Opelousas. Theft.
John Vigers, 69, 700 block of East Peach Street, Eunice. Warrant.
Albert Mouton, 32, 700 block of Orange Street, Jennings. Identify theft.

St. Edmund fair begins Friday

St. Edmund Catholic School is holding its spring fair Friday through Sunday at the campus at 331 North 3rd St.

Church Point area prepping for capital outlay projects

The passage of the new tax in the Church Point area in March must have felt like Christmas to those who have wanted to build in the area.
In March, Church Point School District No. 6 approved a new tax, 10 mills for 10 years, put forth by the Acadia Parish School Board.

French Immersion choir to perform

The children’s choir of the French Immersion Program at Prairie Elementary School in Lafayette (La Chorale en Français de Prairie) will perform at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapelle Country Store at Le Village, 121 Seale Lane in Eunice, in conjunction with the free children’s game day and Wishing Doll session. The choir will also perform at the Jean Lafitte Prairie Acadian Cultural Center at 1:30 p.m. Members are second, third and fourth graders of Prairie Elementary Lafayette French Immersion Program. The Choir coaches, Sabrina Benazzouz, Jean-Philippe Warlet and Sophie Zaoui, are from Belgium and France. They practice exclusively French songs in various styles. Obituaries

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
