The first day of public school in St. Landry Parish will be Aug. 13 in a school calendar recommended by the parish School Board’s executive committee.
The board is to consider the calendar at its meeting scheduled at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Central Office in Opelousas.

On March 1, Stage launched its spring “30 Days of Giving” campaign. All Stage customers who visit the Eunice store between March 1 to March 31 will be invited to donate to the St. Landry Parish Government – Animal Control, a valued organization in their community.

The annual World Championship Crawfish Etouffee Cook-off is Sunday, and big crawfish are available for those cooking in Sunday’s event.
Twenty-one St. Landry Parish students opted out of taking the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers test, Superintendent Edward Brown said.
But 6,391 third- through eighth-grade students in the parish took the test, he said.
