Eunice residents John Arabie and George White became the first same-sex couple to legally marry in the history of St. Landry Parish.

The story about the mayor’s job in Eunice was still unfolding as the year wound down as the Louisiana Supreme Court considered an appeal of a 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal decision that cleared the way for appointed mayor Scott Fontenot to run for the job.

The year closes out on what may be one of the worst downturns in the oil patch.
Employment and sales tax numbers for St. Landry Parish indicated the downturn in the oil and gas industry were hitting home.

Blue Jays were state runners-up

The Blue Jays had lost five straight games heading into the Class 1-A baseball playoffs.
St. Edmund then won four in a row to advance to the state championship game.
The Blue Jays’ dream season ended with a 12-0 loss to Ouachita Christian.

Master plan advances, awaits Board action

The push for master plan in 2015 had tracks back to 2014, but 2015 was a break-out year to turn an idea to plan the city’s growth into reality.

Obituaries

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
