A branding campaign for St. Landry Parish — “We’re Moving Forward” — was discussed Tuesday at a meeting of the St. Landry Parish Economic Industrial Development District’s board of directors.

The Louisiana Department of Education recently announced a record number of high school seniors earning scores of 18 or higher on the ACT.
St. Landry Parish public school students had an average composite score of 18.7 in the 2014-15 school year, up from 18.4 the previous year.

A Ville Platte man attempted to stuff a cockroach into a woman’s mouth during a domestic attack sparked by the 21-year-old woman’s refusal to have sex with him, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.

July 21
Dexter Mayes, 28, 4100 block of Opelousas Road, Ville Platte; Domestic abuse battery by strangulation, domestic abuse aggravated assault and aggravated assault.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that effective Aug. 3, an all-way stop condition will be installed at the intersection of La. 1105 at La. 370/La. 1107 near Richard Elementary School, in Acadia Parish.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speed was a factor in at least 29 percent of all traffic fatalities in the U. S. in 2013 and contributed to the deaths of at least 9,613 people nationwide.

Authorities in Acadia Parish are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a 28-year-old St. Martinville man.

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
