There were reports of developments in St. Landry Parish despite the slowdown in the oil and gas industry at a meeting of the St. Landry Parish Economic Industrial Development District Board.

BATON ROUGE – New seasonally-adjusted federal data for 2015 show Louisiana lost more jobs than earlier estimated, in large part weighed down by the impact of low oil prices, a news release from the Louisiana Workforce Commission stated.

A series of guest chef demonstrations begins at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Jean Lafitte National Park Prairie Acadian Culture Center.
The event was announced by the St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission and is being organized by Louisiana Kitchen & Culture magazine.

The St. Landry Parish workforce dropped by 2.9 percent from January 2016 to January 2015, according to federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In January, there were 32,230 people working and 2,742 people unemployed, which totaled 32,972 people.

The 31st World Championship Etouffee Cook-off will kick off Saturday night with live entertainment at Ruby’s Courtyard on Second Street, and the cook-off will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m Sunday at the Northwest Pavilion on Samuel Drive.
