If a bill before the Louisiana Senate becomes law, cities or parishes which utilize cameras to catch motorist running red lights will be required to post visible warning signs wherever the inconspicuous cameras are present.

The Senate Committee on Education, wrangling with a half dozen bills April 7 designed to transform the TOPS scholarship program, landed on one that unhooks the scholarships from tuition costs.
The Louisiana House of Representatives unanimously passed a bill giving Louisiana schools districts the authority to require that one coach in each of the sports offered at high schools be certified in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.

Community Garden open hour Tuesdays
The Eunice Community Garden has scheduled open hours from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays to allow the community to learn about the opportunity to garden in a community setting.

Mayor Scott Fontenot and Alderman Dale Soileau were sworn in Wednesday afternoon at City Hall as several family members and friends looked on.
Sales tax collections dropped about 2 percent in Eunice and St. Landry Parish through March compared to same period a year, according to a report by the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.

Adding “music” to a coordinator of instruction’s job description prompted some School Board members to question whether the position is needed.
The personnel committee recommended “music” be added to the job description, which might have seemed like a fairly easy thing to do.
A police officer was injured Friday afternoon during a search of the Eunice Head Start.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said, “We received a call from the Head Start that they heard what sounded like someone running in the attic. The building was evacuated and completely searched.”

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
