St. Landry Parish school calendar includes the following.
First day for students — Thursday, Aug. 13.
Labor Day — Monday, Sept. 7.
Early dismissal — Sept. 16.
Staff professional development days — Thursday and Friday, Oct. 8-9.
The use of cell phones is banned around most schools, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
“If you are on the phone, when you get to school zones put the phone down,” he said. “Stop talking until you get out of that school zone.”

A Church Point couple has been arrested following an investigation into an incident that was reported to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
A ban on private burning for St. Landry Parish took effect at 6 a.m. today and will remain in place until further notice, Bill Fontenot, parish president, announced Monday evening.
Dry vegetation is cited for the ban, which includes municipalities.

A Morse man has been charged him with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile following an investigation into an incident that was reported on Aug 4, a news release from Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon stated.
The Eunice Board of Aldermen are to meet Tuesday beginning with a public hearing at 6:15 p.m.

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
