Suspensions of banks run Louisiana were fewer in number during the first six months of 1931 than in any other southern state, with only four closing their doors. Deposits totaled $971,000.
Beginning Sunday until Monday, the outside lane of Interstate 49 south, located north of Opelousas, will be closed to allow crews to perform repair work to the message board located at milepost 22.
The work is estimated to take place from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Given the treacherous tax votes that state lawmakers took during this year’s regular session, many now find themselves on the defensive as the fall election season kicks into high gear.
Undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree diplomas will be conferred during the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Summer 2015 Commencement ceremony.
The ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. in the Convention Center adjacent to the Cajundome, in Exhibit Hall B on the first floor.

Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon announced the following recent arrests that were made by agents with Acadia Parish Narcotic Task Force.
Gregory Fruge
Gregory Fruge, a lifelong resident of Eunice, is announcing that he is a candidate for District 41 state representative. The district consist of northern Acadia Parish, the panhandle of St Landry Parish and the southwest part of Evangeline Parish.

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
